Overview

“It is said that it takes a village to raise a child, well this project took a village of creative and dedicated individuals and firms.” – Dean Schouweiler, PE, Lawson Mechanical

This was a truly collaborative project from the beginning to the end with a creative and dedicated team. To kick off the design of the mechanical systems, the Owner and the Lawson Mechanical engineering team met for a charrette which resulted in determining two key project goals that had a large influence on the final selection of mechanical systems: Net Zero Energy and using the building as a Living Lab.

One major innovative mechanical solution was the repurposing of an existing basement that was originally scheduled to be abandoned and backfilled. The basement is now used as a thermal labyrinth to precondition the ventilation air.

This project, DPR Construction’s new office located at 1801 J Street in downtown Sacramento successfully achieved Net Positive Energy and LEED Platinum and Well Certification.
